The English Department for Graduate Students is dedicated to teaching English to all non-English-major graduate students and doctoral students at USTB. It offers required courses in English for General Purposes and English for Academic Purposes. In addition, elective courses in reading and writing of English Research Articles, Academic English for International Exchanges, Cross-Cultural Communication, and Western Culture and Society are offered. The English Departments mission is to facilitate student-centered classroom learning, cultivate student self-stud abilities and develop their English language skills, targeting the ability of using English to conduct academic studies and research.
The English Department for Graduate Students has 1 professor, 4 associate professors and 6 lecturers, whose research interests range from linguistics, second language acquisition, translation theory and practice, to English literature. The department puts equal emphasis on teaching and research, and has expanded in its undertaking of teaching and research projects, publishing textbooks and research articles.
