Since 2016, the University of Science and Technology Beijing’s School of Foreign Studies has established the USTB Research Center for World Literature and Culture to assure its position and participation in the Top-Notch University and Top-Notch Program Projects. The purpose of the Center, is to recognize and promote USTB’s internationalized talents, redevelop top ranking Foreign Language and Literature doctoral programs, and contribute to the USTB Elite Arts development strategy. Its main aim is to reintegrate current teaching and research resources, focus on foreign literature and culture, promote academic innovation, and enhance multi-disciplinary cooperation to facilitate the cultivation of outstanding scholars.

The Center’s academic team has consistently and successfully been working on several projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China and the Educational Ministry of Social Sciences and Humanities Foundation of China. Their support has enabled USTB to invite and welcome renowned national and international scholars, researchers, and critics to give lectures, colloquia, and seminars at the Center to propagate the Western Humanities Lectures. For example, in 2016, the Centre successfully organized the Frontier Forum for Foreign Literary and Cultural Discourses as well as a Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary Commemorative week which garnered accolades from both the community and Beijing.
