Theoretical & Applied Linguistics

Theoretical Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in the SFS cover various fields of linguistic studies, including Sociolinguistics, Systemic Functional Linguistics, Semantics, Language Logic and Formal Linguistics, with Functional Linguistics as its main strength.

From 2015-2020, the research team has organized 4 academic conferences involving both Chinese and overseas scholars, undertaken 5 NSSFC projects and 3 projects at provincial and ministerial levels, published 16 monographs and 20 articles in SSCI, A&HCI and CSSCI-covered journals as well as 31 articles in Chinese Core Journals and other of foreign languages journals.

Prof. Zhang has been honored with the “Beijing Higher Education Prominent Teacher Award” granted by the Beijing Municipal Education commission. He was selected to be in the MOE Program for New Century Excellent Talents in Universities and served the MOE as an expert responsible for assessing the teaching quality in higher education at the undergraduate level while formulating a comprehensive blueprint for educational reform. Under his leadership, two courses were rated as a “National Excellent Course” and a “Beijing Excellent Course”.

His publications include 1 Academic Anthology, 29 Articles, and 10 Textbooks under his general editorship,  one of which has been listed in the  “Higher Education Twelfth Five-year National Planning Textbook” and one ranked as an “Excellent Textbook in Beijing”.
