—— — Translation lecture by Dr. Jing Han from the University of Western Sydney

On October 24th 2017, Dr. Jing Han, Senior Lecturer of the School of Humanities and Communication Arts at the University of Western Sydney, gave a lecture entitled “The Challenges and Success of Translating Chinese Culture”. In this lecture, Dr. Jing Han demonstrated why and how to translate Chinese culture well through some examples of Chinese TV show If You Are The One? (Fei Cheng Wu Rao).

Dr. Jing Han emphasized that context is extremely important in translation. It is necessary to express language that audiences understand, manipulate the language, and deal with cultural differences so as to make the audience understand and to produce the same reaction that the source language is trying to achieve. The cases cited by Dr. Han Jing were vivid and interesting. The teachers and students at the scene felt the endless pleasure from translation.

Our school is currently promoting a joint training program with the University of Western Sydney (UWS). It is expected that the first group of students will go to UWS in March 2018. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Han Jing answered questions about the joint training program. The lecture ended with warm applause from teachers and students present.
