At 9:00 a.m. on September 6, 2019, the 11th Session of the third Teachers’ Congress & Conference of the Faculty and Staff of the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) was held at Room 304 in the Foreign Language Building. Jia Shuiku, executive vice chairman of the Labor Union of USTB, was invited to attend. The meeting was presided over by Wu Guanxiong, vice dean of the SFS.
Chen Hongwei, dean of the SFS, gave a systematic summary of work undertaken in the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year in the keynote report on behalf of all faculty of the school. She thoroughly reviewed the Party building , ideological and political work, achievements of undergraduate teaching and its reform, academic research and the postgraduate training program, construction of the international platform, and preparation for the fifth China Discipline Ranking The dean also called on faculty and staff to maintain a high level of enthusiasm in their work in the new semester, solidly promote the school’s Party building, ideological and political work, and actively carry out educational activities, determined to “remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind”. The innovative training of talents should be continued, solid and meticulous teaching management be maintained, and stable teaching order be preserved. Feedback on the performance of teachers from 2016 to 2019 needed to be sorted out. The assessment in the employment term and a new round of recruitment startup would be carried out in a fair and just way.
The second item on the agenda of the congress was to take a vote on the revised and newly added rules and regulations of the SFS from 2018 to 2019. In the past two years, in line with the improvement and revision of various rules and regulations of USTB, the SFS has closely followed the standardized procedure, and made timely revision and additions to various management systems of the school. A total of 22 items on teaching and research management, Party affairs administration, asset and financial management and safety management systems were revised or added to ensure that a wide range of the work of the SFS would follow established procedures and be orderly and under the overall work framework of the university. On the basis of extensive and sufficient opinions solicited before the conference, the 22 items were voted through.
Later, executive vice chairman Jia Shuiku and secretary of the SFS Zhang Qiuman respectively announced the list of winners for all the work of the SFS and presented certificates to them.
Lastly, Jia delivered a summary , pointing out that the work of the SFS had been affirmed by the university. He praised the young teachers for their excellent achievements in the basic teaching skills competition. At the same time, he spoke highly of the organization of the Faculty and Staff Congress. Jia hoped that all teachers would teach attentively, contentedly and willingly. Furthermore, the faculty were expected to pay attention to the important role of the Teachers’ Congress in guaranteeing the proper operation of the work of the SFS, and actively put forward advice and submit proposals that would be good for the university. Mr. Jia also expressed the wish that the SFS carry forward its fine tradition of unity of purpose and forge ahead to scale ever greater heights!
